Royal River is delighted to announce the purchase of Fiber Pieces, our collaborative partner who has helped us with yarn design and production over the last two years.  The prior owners of Fiber Pieces will continue to serve the alpaca world within their own areas of expertise – product design and fiber sorting services.  So what’s next?

  • Royal River will continue with the commercial production program focusing on North American fiber and production.  We are continuing our relationship with Kraemer Textiles in Pennsylvania and are now in discussions with a Maine company to contract for washing and sorting services.  Details regarding the 2008 production options can be obtained by e-mailing Claudia at claudia@royalriveralpaca.com
  • The Jason Collingwood Rug Program will continue.  In 2007 and 2008, Jason designed and produced five one of a kind rugs for Fiber Pieces customers.  We are looking forward both to increasing the design options and choices of colors.  Samples of the rugs will be on the website shortly.
  • Our farm in collaboration with a second Maine farm has established a distribution agreement for our commercially produced yarns with Louet of North America.  A wonderful partner with a long history in natural fibers, we are looking forward to their support and expertise in enhancing our yarns and the ones available through the Farm Program.
  • Fiber Pieces operated a farm program designed to increase the production options available for our raw fiber.  Launching lines of blended alpaca in lovely, soft colors – this same line will be available in the Fall of 2008 with the addition of a natural and black.  In 2008, yarns available through the Farm Program will be commercially processed in the United States.  The yarns will continue to be used in Royal River’s Jason Collingwood Rug Program with the addition of a new end products targeted for late fall, 2008.

We are thrilled to have the opportunity to move forward towards our goal of creating a sustainable U.S. fiber market.  In doing so, we will continue to work with the talented individuals – JoAnn Longo, a design weaver; Paula Robert, an outstanding technical weaver; and Pam Harwood, an alpaca farmer and certified fiber sorter.  We are also excited about the new opportunities that will naturally occur as we work collaboratively with other fiber artists.
